UNDP-MDG-00629 Recruitment of a cabinet to conduct a gender analysis for a prevention and response program to HIV AIDS in Madagascar I. MADAGASCAR Context is among countries with low rate of HIV prevalence, which is estimated in 2021 to 0.37% among adults aged aged 15-49 years [1]. However, the epidemic is concentrated in key populations (sex workers, men with sex with men and people who inject drugs) whose prevalence rate is greater than 5 %[2]. By elsewhere, prevalence in women (0.4 %) is greater than that of men (0.3 %). In young people aged 15-24, prevalence in girls is almost three times that of boys (0.14 % versus 0.05 %) [3]. In Madagascar, women who gave birth in 5 years before 2021 were 89 % to have benefited from prenatal care, While only 39% had given birth in a health center allowing the prescription of antiretroviral prophylaxis to the newborns of a positive mother in HIV. These women reported a lack of screening tests in prenatal consultation since only 8% benefited during consultations prenatal to their last pregnancy. In total, barely 15 % of HIV positive mothers benefited from antiretroviral treatment to their last pregnancy [4].
